As the kids go back to school, we suddenly begin to see a surge in colds, flu and other viruses. It is very easy to catch something at work, school, church or even while out shopping because many people continue to go outside of their house, even while ill. So no matter where you go and how much you may try to prevent exposure to germs, it is inevitable that you will cross paths with them eventually. That is why it is important to have a great natural cough and sore throat remedy that you can whip up in the kitchen.
So if you find yourself with a sore, scratchy throat and cough, it is easy to make a small batch of this remedy that can help naturally.
There are four simple ingredients:
Apple cider vinegar- be sure to use the kind that is raw and unfiltered. The kind with the “mother” floating in it. The acetic acid that is found in apple cider vinegar can help in not only killing bacteria but preventing them from multiplying.
Raw local honey- skip the store bought stuff and use raw local honey. You should be able to find this at a local farmer’s market or local health food store. Raw honey contains digestive enzymes which support the gut (where a good chunk of the body’s immune system lies) as well as being a powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral food. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals…all needed by the body to help it heal.
Garlic- this flavorful herb is not just for flavoring your favorite food, but contains powerful cold and flu fighting compounds. One compound allicin helps to boost the immune system and can reduce the length of a bug up to 70%…which means that you will feel better much more quickly! The important thing is that the garlic be fresh and not jarred. Once garlic is cut, it loses a good bit of it’s healing power.
Cayenne- this spicy herb is known for it’s heat, but it provides amazing healing benefits as well. Cayenne is a well known anti-inflammatory and has been used for thousands of years as a pain reliever. It is great for the digestive system and can actually stop a bought of acid reflux. This digestive support is important when trying to help the body recover from illness. Cayenne is great for helping to break up mucus…which is often a problem with a cold or flu. It has powerful antibacterial properties and also helps the body to detox, which will help you get well more quickly.
