I will fully admit that at one time I frequently used lots of different air fresheners, scented candles and other synthetically scented products in my home. And I didn’t just use a few of these products….I used a LOT of them!! But I began to have serious reactions to those scented products and had to stop using them all together. Then as I began learning about the chemicals that I used to use to make my house smell “fresh” and the health hazards linked to them, I was absolutely mortified!
So many people continue to use these products with the false belief that they make their house smell cleaner…when in fact, these chemicals actually add to the pollution in the home and can ultimately lead to health complications in those who use these products regularly.
One thing that I missed the convenience of was Febreze. So I wanted something that I could spray on fabrics and upholstery that would help to remove scents but wasn’t toxic to my family…and a natural Febreze substitute. I don’t use that product anymore because it is seriously not healthy for me or my house! And this recipe actually really works well for something so simple! I’ve actually been using this for a couple of years and always keep a spray bottle handy….which is so important for pet owners. It’s been helpful to get rid of the “dog” smell in my house! Yay!
You can use essential oils in this recipe, but I personally don’t use essential oils in it anymore. I used them in the first couple of batches of this fabric refresher and the scent did not last very long and I decided that it wasn’t worth using the oils for a few minutes worth of scent. Instead, I would much rather diffuse essential oils for longer scent experience!
