There are a couple of schools of thought about applesauce in the real food world…particularly the type that is going to be lacto-fermented. There are some who prefer to do raw applesauce to gain all of the benefits of the nutrients in the apple. But for some, raw apple is not an option.
Some people have allergic reactions to apples. Others with leaky gut syndrome, who are experiencing less than optimal digestion may have a difficult time digesting raw apples. For those working on healing their gut, I always recommend cooking apples and pears for much easier digestion.
So I created this applesauce recipe, for those who cannot tolerate the raw. It can absolutely be lacto-fermented after it has cooled! And it is beyond easy to do to! It will only take you about 10 minutes to get this recipe cooking in your crock pot, because you will leave the peels on the apples!
Slow Cooker Applesauce
- 10 apples organic Fuji or Gala are the best
- 1/2 cup filtered water
With an apple slicer and corer, slice and core your apples.
Add apples to slow cooker.
Sprinkle cinnamon on top (to your liking)
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
When done cooking, allow to cool completely.
Blend with an emersion blender or add apples to food processor or Vitamix type blender and mix thoroughly.
Store in container in fridge for up to 1 week.
